WAG 2021 Christmas party photo of our volunteers and therapy dogs

Ziggy

Meet Greg and Ziggy the cavapoo, Ziggy arrived at the Gettings’ family, from Wales, at twelve weeks old in 2017.  Ziggy loves going for walks, especially across the beach, and loves being wherever her family happen to be.  Before becoming a WAG therapy dog Ziggy would go with Greg to visit Greg’s Mum in a local residential home when Greg noticed that even though Ziggy was still a very young and a very active pup, she was always calm and gentle when in the care home.  Because of this Greg was keen for Ziggy to become a WAG therapy dog and has been doing visits since early 2021.

Lottie

Meet Lottie the loveable working cocker spaniel. Lottie has been owned by Jenny since she was 12 months old. She is an absolute joy and loves life which involves many lovely walks (although Lottie runs everywhere) on the cliffs and swimming in the sea.  She loves meeting people and adores children especially Jenny’s three lovely granddaughters. Her favourite toy is her bunny.’  Lottie and Jenny are regular visits to Frossard Ward where patients and staff adore her. Lottie is also ‘on call’ to do ad-hoc visits to ICU at the PEH.

Truffle

Truffle is Bryony’s Chocolate Merle Cockapoo. Although Bryony has been around dogs from a young age, Truffle is the first dog Bryony has owned herself. They completed a six-week puppy training course at IDTC and have since attended Leaps and Bounds for Hounds, learning tricks that Truffle absolutely loves. She has an impressive repertoire, including wiping her feet on doormats and turning pages of children’s books as if reading. Full of energy, Truffle adores beach runs, swimming, and playing ball—when she has a ball, nothing else matters. Small at just 6kg, she’s affectionately known as Tiddly and loves curling up on laps, especially during her visits to Les Ormes care home.

Leeloo

Leeloo is a two-year-old French Bulldog living with Sharon since she was a tiny pup. Nicknamed “Pudding” by her breeders, she was always first to latch on, the most advanced of the litter. Leeloo loves learning new tricks and scent detection classes. Her favourite toy is Mr Crocodile (a hard chew), though chasing empty plastic bottles is a close second. She loves any walks, especially with dog friends, and ends her days cuddling on the bed, dreaming of banana slices and salmon treats. With Sharon she visits Brock Ward, having taken over from the very popular Poppet, and sometimes she goes to work with Sharon at Safferys

Pepper

Pepper is a local girl, born in St Saviours in May 2023 and now happily settled in St Peters with Tony, Marguerite and Sunny (now a retired WAG therapy dog). This fox red Labrador is full of beans and loves every minute of life. A Level Five scent work star, Pepper enjoys sniffing out hidden odours in the most unlikely places. She adores racing along the cliffs and beaches, making new canine friends, and visiting Grow, where she makes friends with Crew and staff alike. Evenings are for sofa snoozes and dreaming of tomorrow’s adventures.

Robbie

Meet Robbie, a delightful Havanese born in May 2023, charming hearts at Blanchelande Park with Janine since joining WAG a year ago. As a puppy he mischievously chewed through several leads before growing out of it. Robbie adores balls of any kind, especially squeaky ones. Beaches are his favourite walks, particularly racing around Bordeaux harbour at low tide. His best moments are post-breakfast snuggles with Janine while she studies languages, before reminding her it’s walk time. Duck jerky is irresistible, and he loves riding in the basket of Janine’s electric tricycle, leaning into the breeze to see where they are going.

Wally

Wally is a five-year-old Whippet who perfectly embodies his breed’s gentle charm. Affectionate and people-focused, he thrives on attention and companionship, though his favourite pastime is sleeping. Wally prefers human company to other dogs but enjoys a small circle of doggy friends and relaxed Sunday strolls with fellow sighthounds. He loves squeaky toys and chasing a ball – returning it is optional. Whether walking, riding in the car, or snuggling on the sofa, Wally is happiest with Sally, especially when it ends with an ice cream from the local beach kiosk. Together, Wally and Sally regularly visit Chateau du Village Nursing Home.

Waffle

Waffle is the fluffiest little heartthrob on four paws!  He is a five year old Shih Tzu. His favourite treat is a custard cream, he’d win a snack-eating contest paws down if that were a thing. When he’s not indulging his sweet tooth, Waffle enjoys strutting his stuff on walks and having epic playdates with his squeaky toys.

Sleep? Oh, he’s a pro. Waffle takes napping very seriously, with his snooze spots ranging from cozy couches to sun-drenched patches of floor. He loves cuddles and scratches him behind the ears.

Waffle loves visiting his pals at Maison de Beauvoir with mum Lou, where he’s basically the life and soul of the party.

Lycan

Lycan, the white shorted haired Alsatian, is second youngest in his family of five dogs. Lycan is a traveller – during Covid he nipped off to South Africa with mom Karen for two weeks. Lycan is a member of Search Dogs Guernsey, trained to track missing dogs. He takes his work both on duty tracking or doing WAG visits very seriously.  He is a gentle giant and loves small dogs and puppies.

He is the goof ball of the pack, very vocal and a bit of a mommy’s boy. He is known as Karen’s ‘white shadow’ as he never leaves her side.

Lycan and Karen are popular visitors at Browhill Nursing Home.

Mika

Is a two year old Sprocker – our bilingual therapy dog.  Mika and her mum Juliana, who is French, regularly visit the residents at Blanchelande Park Residential Home.  She loves company. As a puppy she would take her food from her bowl to eat in the lounge and loves to cuddle up with Juliana and her husband.

Her favourite walks are at Port Grat or Ladies Bay where she will chase a ball rather than take a treat.   Mika goes to agility classes and will begin competitions. Going to bed with a dental stick is her goodnight treat.

Burtie

Burtie is a golden doodle who loves his morning walk around the park, being with people and meeting new doggy friends. The Watts household adopted Burtie when he was 9 months old, since he has arrived he has been like a ray of sunshine in their lives brightening up every day. He enjoys relaxing by the fire and he is hoping one day to be able to visit schools just like his Mum. In the meantime Collette and Burtie are enjoying visits to residents and staff at Les Ormes Care Home

Lola

At 19 months old Lola is fully grown but still a puppy at heart. She’s very intuitive and picks up on everything. Walkies on a beach or common are favourites and mayhem ensues if she meets another playful dog. Rollo the Labrador is her favourite playmate.
Bad habits are sneaking on to the furniture and stealing other dogs  toys.
She has a great personality and is incredibly friendly. Lola visits Le Marchant Ward and Maison de Beauvoir with dad Mike where everyone wants to meet her and vice versa.

Breeze

Breeze is a Cavapoo, born in January 2021 in South Wales.  He came to Guernsey with his siblings and is a much loved member of the Elwin family.   His favourite game is chasing a tennis ball, returning it and wanting it thrown again, he complains profusely if you don’t continue!  Breeze attends obedience classes and has achieved the Kennel Club’s Bronze Award.    Recently, he took part in his first competition for obedience and came fourth. Breeze, Graham and Rebecca visit Summerland Nursing Home where he is made a fuss of by all the staff and residents.

Harvey

Harvey needs no introduction. He is well known as our Patron.  He recently completed his assessment and with and mum Nikki visits patients and staff on Roustel Ward at the Oberlands where he enjoys spending time with his new friends.  Harvey enjoys travel, particularly boating with the family. In the car he likes to sit ‘up front’ to look out at the world! He loves to eat roast chicken, go for walks on the L’Eree headland and sleep on the bed when it is cold.  He loves other dogs, even his energetic little sister Lola.

Miss Molly

This very cute two year old Cockerpoo joined the Bewey household at just 9 weeks old. Her favourite toy is Monkey, the only toy she hasn’t destroyed, it has been her comforter since day one and goes everywhere with her. Crazy runs across the beach are a favourite outdoor pursuit. Miss Molly loves cuddles and attention particularly evenings when everyone is home. She is a big time foody and loves any treats. Molly and her mum Sadie visit Roustel Ward where they have got to know residents and staff.

Luna

Luna the lovely two year old Chocolate Labrador who joined the Tabel family at just 14 weeks old. She now spends her days at Les Voies School in the Nurture Zone with mum Merrilee who is a Learning Support Assistant there. As a puppy Luna loved sleeping with her head in peoples shoes. Now her favourite toy is her cuddly Orangutan. Walking on the beach is a favourite, along with exploring new smells on the cliffs. She loves to run through long grass, enjoys swimming and digging holes in the sand. At home its cuddles and a tummy tickle on the couch.

Alfie

This  miniature schnauzer flew in to Guernsey  in a private plane one Liberation Day  and loved the flight!  Being food motivated Alfie was fairly easy to train and loves all his toys, especially the noisy ones.  He loves being with mum and dad Rosemary and Terry’s grandson Eric. Alfie wants to play with every dog he meets out walking on the common or the beach and spends his evenings cuddled up on his rug on the sofa.   Alfie visits Le Rondin School with Rosemary and they regularly go to see his good friend Emily.

Tilly

Tilly is a bundle of cute, curly white Bichon Frise. With mum Jean she visits patients in Brehon Ward at The Oberlands every week. She enjoys packing her passport and a few squeaky toys and holidaying in France or just relaxing under the table during lunch at the Yacht Club in the summer. Tilly is much loved and Jean enjoys the time they spend together on the Ward where patients react with pleasure and smiles.
