Our first training session, aimed at giving anyone interested in joining the WAG team a chance to see what is required of a therapy dog, proved so popular that two workshops were held for a total of 12 dogs.
Committee members and qualified trainers Anna Brehaut and Jenny Mahy lead the sessions. Anna explained that in order to become volunteers dogs must have a gentle temperament and enjoy being a fuss of. And that it is also very important that they have some basic training skills and are relaxed, which is why we held the course. She said we are very aware of the commitment that our volunteers are making so we want them to feel confident and relaxed when heading towards the assessment stage.
Since the training sessions several of the attendees have already passed their assessment and become WAG dogs.
The workshop will be repeated on Wednesday 9th October at St Peter’s Douzaine Room starting at 6pm. Anyone interested should email woof@wag.org.gg.
